ABOUT
Perched atop San Francisco’s cable car lined Russian Hill, this historic 1915 flat boasts natural lighting and sweeping iconic views of the city. After numerous decades, the dated 2,570 square foot, four-bedroom, two and a half bath unit underwent an extensive renovation to meet a family’s desire to create a city retreat with historic charm, modern-day comforts and an open layout for entertaining family and friends.
The previous cellular plan featured compartmentalized public living areas where walls separated the living room, dining room, and kitchen: the closed plan limited interactions and adjacent room views. Additionally, the private areas featured compact bedrooms, bathrooms, and closet space.

Within a year, the unit was scrapped down to the bare concrete shell and simplified in form, turning it into a four-bedroom, three-bath dwelling. The public living areas were reconfigured to one large entertainment area, which promoted interaction and gatherings, while picturesque views from the rounded bay windows naturally welcomed reading and lounging. The flow of the private areas was improved upon by reorganizing the spaces to create more spacious bedrooms, bathrooms, and closets. The reconfiguration allowed for a private master suite with distant views of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Aesthetically, the interiors exude a sophisticated contemporary style with clean lines and soothing hues balanced with stronger tones and varying textures. The interior finish palette is comprised of natural stone, wood accents, a metal fire- place surround, custom casework, and complimentary interior decor.
