The opportunity

We're looking for an intermediate architect or designer who is comfortable working remotely and managing their time well, but who also genuinely values close creative collaboration. This is not a heads-down, work-in-isolation role. You'll work directly and frequently with the principal, who leads design from concept through schematic development. Your contribution picks up from there: refining, developing, and resolving ideas across design development and into construction documents, with ongoing dialogue every step of the way.

Think of it as the best of both worlds, the focus and flexibility of remote work, with the creative engagement of a close-knit studio. The position is available at 80% or 100% of full-time, depending on what works for both of us.

What you will do

Design development

Collaborate closely with the principal to develop and refine design concepts, then carry them forward through detailed construction documents.

Construction sets

Produce precise, well-coordinated drawing sets using AutoCAD. Accuracy and thoroughness are essential.

Visualization

Create photo-realistic renderings with SketchUp/Enscape that bring designs to life for clients and project stakeholders.

Presentation

Assemble polished project presentations and materials in InDesign, and communicate proactively with the principal throughout each project phase.

Project responsibility

Manage your own workload and deadlines with care. Precision and time management are expected and respected.

What you will bring

Education

Professional degree in Architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch).

Experience

Demonstrated experience with custom residential projects: you understand the pace, detail, and client expectations.

Technical skills

Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, and InDesign. Experience with Notion is a plus.

License

California licensure is beneficial but not required. What matters most is your work and your judgment.

Location & availability

Must be within 3 hours of Pacific Time. Occasional travel to the Bay Area and Sonoma for site visits. Must be authorized to work in the US. We do not sponsor work visas.

Remote readiness

You've worked independently before and know how to stay organized, communicate clearly, and keep projects moving.

Benefits

Health

Kaiser Permanente medical & dental, starting after a 3-month introductory period.

Retirement

Retirement savings facilitated through the CalSavers program.

Remote support

Necessary hardware and software provided, plus a monthly remote-work stipend.

Professional growth

AIA and LEED membership fees and testing costs reimbursed.

To apply

Send your resume, references, portfolio, and a brief note about why this role is a good fit. Please keep all attachments to 10 MB or less. Work samples reflecting custom residential experience are especially welcome.
