ABOUT
Rising from the aftermath of the 2020 Glass Fire, this concept was born from a commission to reimagine a site in the Sonoma hillsides that is as complex as it is beautiful. We were tasked not just with replacing a lost home, but with creating a new architectural dialogue with the land. The design is anchored by a bold, 250-foot linear gesture—a response to the site's extensive existing garden architecture. Rather than imposing a blockade against the landscape, the residence acts as a permeable frame. The concept envisions a modern, "floating" volume that hovers above the terrain, allowing the garden to pass freely through the ground floor. This dissolves the traditional boundaries of indoor and outdoor living, turning the house into a bridge that spans the natural environment. Inside, the material palette reflects the resilience of the earth: cool concrete, warm timber, and expansive glazing. Sunken living spaces ground the residents, while intricate lattice screens filter the harsh California sun into dappled, changing patterns of light. This is a home designed not just to sit on the land, but to breathe with it. LOCATION // SANTA ROSA, CA YEAR // ONGOING |
