What began as a dated 3,000-square-foot residence became a 10,000-square-foot modern home designed for gathering, entertaining, and living fully in the view.

The site had rare potential: a south-facing hillside with sweeping panoramas of the rolling hills and San Francisco Bay. But it was also compact, steep, and tightly constrained by setbacks. Realizing the client's vision meant thinking carefully about every square foot — indoors and out — and orienting the entire home around the horizon.

Arriving at the main entry, guests step into a double-height atrium, where a sculptural staircase rises along one side. The space opens directly into the heart of the home: a unified living, dining, and kitchen area that runs completely open to the south, framed by a sixty-foot operable glass wall that dissolves the boundary between interior and view.

One level above, the primary suite and a guest room occupy a private upper floor, deliberately set apart for retreat. One level below, a family room and entertainment spaces sit alongside two additional guest rooms and a wine cellar. The lowest level holds a fully encapsulated Dolby theater and a self-contained in-law suite with garden access. Crowning the home, a rooftop terrace — reached through an automated glass skylight — offers a full 360-degree outlook.

Beyond the architecture, the home incorporates integrated smart-home systems, refined materials, and craftsmanship at every scale. It's a home built to be lived in generously, and to reward the site it sits on.
